Ganges frontage
The river runs along the town's northern edge, wide and braided with sandbars. It gives the poster a strong open field against the finer grain of the streets.

La carte
Colgong Map Poster & Print
Colgong, also known as Kahalgaon, lies on the south bank of the Ganges in Bihar's Bhagalpur district. The river sets the terms here. On a map the town's streets bend along the bank, and the broad water with its sandbars fills much of the frame. Rocky outcrops in the river nearby have long been a local landmark.
Just inland lie the ruins of Vikramashila, one of the great Buddhist monastic universities of ancient India. The site gives the area a depth that reaches well beyond its present size. A large thermal power station also stands nearby, and its geometric footprint marks the more recent chapter of the local landscape.
A Colgong map poster sets all of this in precise black and white: the curving riverfront, the lanes running back from it, and the roads heading out toward Bhagalpur. It is a simple composition built around one of the most important rivers in the world, as seen from a single bend of its course.

Riverbank lanes
Streets follow the curve of the bank before turning inland. They form a pattern shaped by the water rather than by any planned grid.
