Lake Tanganyika
The great rift lake lies to the west. Where it enters the frame, it forms a broad, unbroken plane that contrasts sharply with the busy lines of the hills.

Mwandiga Map Poster & Print
Mwandiga lies just inland from Kigoma, in western Tanzania, near the shore of Lake Tanganyika. The lake is one of the deepest in the world and forms part of the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Even when it appears only at the edge of the frame, it sets the orientation of the whole map.
The ground rises steeply from the lakeshore into ridges and valleys, and the roads show it. Instead of running straight, they wind along the contours, with smaller tracks branching off to houses and farm plots on the slopes. The built-up area follows the main road, then thins out quickly into the surrounding hills.
A Mwandiga map poster shows a town whose shape is set by hills and a nearby lake. In black and white, the winding roads look almost like handwriting. Around them, the fine pattern of footpaths and plots shows how densely people have settled the high ground above Kigoma.

Contour roads
Roads bend around the slopes instead of cutting straight across them, so the map reads as a set of flowing curves rather than a grid.
Hillside plots
Footpaths and small farm plots cover the ridges around the town. They form a fine pattern that fades gradually toward the edges of the print.

Pourquoi Mwandiga
Une carte qui a du sens
The map suits people with roots in Kigoma region and those who have worked there, including teachers, researchers and aid workers. The mix of hills and lake gives the print a strong landscape feel, even though it shows only a few streets.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps the years you spent there or the name of a school. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper gives the hills a soft, archival look.
