Gaj is a district in the south of Wrocław, in Lower Silesia. On a map, it is made mostly of large residential blocks. Long apartment buildings are set in open landscaped grounds, and a small number of wide streets serve them. The layout follows the typical Polish housing estate: big superblocks with paths, courtyards and playgrounds, rather than the dense street grid of the old town.
Gaj sits between other southern districts of the city and is linked to the centre by main roads and tram lines. Around the estate, the street pattern changes. There are older streets of houses, stretches of allotments and green space, and the wider roads of the ring leading into the city.
