The map

About this Đakovo map poster

Đakovo sits in eastern Croatia on the level ground of Slavonia, where fields run almost unbroken to the horizon. On a map the town reads as a tight core surrounded by a looser ring of houses and gardens, with country roads leaving in several directions toward neighbouring villages. The absence of hills or large rivers keeps the drawing clean, letting the street pattern itself carry the composition.

The town is best known for its cathedral, commissioned by Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer in the nineteenth century, whose two tall towers are visible from far across the plain. Đakovo is also home to a state stud farm that breeds Lipizzaner horses, one of the oldest such stables in Europe. Both belong to the character of the town and give its map a clear sense of place.

A Đakovo map poster works because the town is legible at a glance. The dense blocks around the centre, the broader plots on the edges and the straight approach roads create a gentle gradient from urban to rural. Printed in black and white, that gradient becomes the main subject, a quiet portrait of a Slavonian market town and the farmland it grew from.

01

Cathedral centre

The core of Đakovo gathers around the cathedral and its square, where the densest street blocks sit. On the poster this is the darkest area, with lighter residential streets spreading outward from it.

02

Stud farm grounds

The Lipizzaner stud farm has its own grounds in the town, and its buildings and open enclosures form a distinct pattern of larger plots set apart from the ordinary streets around them.

03

Plain and approaches

Roads leave Đakovo almost straight across flat Slavonian farmland, so the edges of the map show long lines and field boundaries rather than hills or water.

Why Đakovo

A map that means something

People hang Đakovo on the wall to remember a town of cathedral bells, horses and harvest landscapes, whether they grew up there, married there or have family roots in Slavonia. The map is a restrained way to keep a place close without a postcard image.

You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a name or a date that matters, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It comes as a $9 HD download or as a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
