The map
Gorna Oryahovitsa lies in north-central Bulgaria, a few kilometres north-east of Veliko Tarnovo, at the foot of the hills along the Yantra valley. The town spreads over gently rising ground, with residential quarters climbing toward wooded slopes and flatter land opening toward farmland. On a map the street pattern is dense and irregular in the centre and more regular toward the edges.
The town is one of the most important railway junctions in Bulgaria, where the line between Sofia and Varna crosses the route from Ruse, and its rail yards cover a large part of the map. It is also known for its dried sausage, Gornooryahovski sudzhuk, which holds protected status in the European Union.
A Gorna Oryahovitsa map poster highlights the contrast between the long, curving lines of the railway and the compact neighbourhoods around it. The nearby wooded high ground and the fields beyond the town add broad areas of space. It is a good choice for anyone connected to the town or to Bulgaria's railways.
Tracks and sidings converge from several directions and fan out across the town. They are the most distinctive and graphic element of the map.
Higher, wooded ground rises close to the town toward Arbanasi and Veliko Tarnovo, where the streets thin out and the terrain takes over.
The Yantra River winds through the valley nearby and adds a looping line of water to the landscape around the town.
