The map
Goya lies in the province of Corrientes, in north-eastern Argentina, beside the Paraná River. From above the town shows the classic Argentine grid of square blocks, extending evenly from a central plaza. To the west the land breaks into a wide floodplain of channels, lagoons and islands, where the river and its side branches draw complex, flowing shapes across the map.
The town grew as a river port and a centre for the surrounding agricultural region, long known for tobacco. Its connection to the river remains central to local life: the Fiesta Nacional del Surubí, a large fishing competition named after the river's prized catfish, is held here and draws anglers from across the country.
Beyond the grid, roads run out across flat countryside of ranches and farmland toward other towns of Corrientes. A Goya map poster sets the geometry of the streets against the loose, organic forms of the Paraná wetlands, two very different kinds of line meeting at the edge of the town.
The street plan is a near-regular grid of square blocks extending evenly from the main plaza, the calm, ordered heart of the composition.
West of the town, channels, islands and lagoons of the Paraná's floodplain create intricate, flowing shapes that fill the map with movement.
The port area on the riverside channel links the town to the water, where the grid ends at the bank and the wetlands begin.
