The map

About this Grand Junction map poster

Grand Junction lies in western Colorado, where the Gunnison River flows into the Colorado River. The name refers to that meeting; the Colorado was once called the Grand River. From above, the city spreads across a broad valley in a mostly regular grid, with Main Street at the centre of the older downtown and Interstate 70 curving across its northern side.

The setting is dramatic. To the west, the red-rock canyons of Colorado National Monument rise steeply from the valley floor. The Book Cliffs form a long wall to the north, and to the east Grand Mesa, one of the largest flat-topped mountains in the world, closes the view. The valley is also known for its orchards and vineyards.

A Grand Junction map poster pulls these elements into one frame: the straight streets of the city, the two rivers joining at its southern edge, and the canals and roads running out across the valley. The contrast between the grid and the shape of the rivers gives the design an easy clarity.

01

River confluence

The Gunnison meets the Colorado just south of downtown. Their curving channels and riverside parks run along the southern edge of the grid, the feature that gave the city its name.

02

Downtown grid

The older centre is a regular grid of numbered streets around Main Street. It gives the middle of the map an ordered, even texture before the suburbs spread wider.

03

Valley canals

Irrigation canals trace thin, gently curving lines across the valley, following the contour of the land. They connect the city's fringe to the orchards and farmland farther out.

Why Grand Junction

A map that means something

Grand Junction draws people who love the western slope: hikers of the Monument, cyclists, wine lovers and families who have been in the valley for generations. A map of the two rivers meeting is a clear way to show that attachment.

Set your own title and subtitle, and use the coordinates line to mark a trailhead, a street or an address. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
