Ranipur lies in Khairpur District in upper Sindh, on the broad alluvial plain of the Indus. The land is almost perfectly flat, and centuries of irrigation have turned it into a pattern of canals, channels and fields that surrounds the town on every side. The map shows this as long straight watercourses and rectangular plots stretching out to the edges of the frame.
The town itself is compact, with a dense core of lanes and markets and a main road running through it. Ranipur lies on the national highway that links Karachi to the north of the country. That road is the strongest single line on the map, and the town's streets cluster around it.
