The map

About this Hinjilicut map poster

Hinjilicut is a town in Ganjam district in southern Odisha, set in the level agricultural country inland from the Bay of Bengal. From above, it appears as a dense, irregular cluster of lanes and small blocks, with a few main roads leading out towards surrounding villages and the larger city of Berhampur to the south.

The town is best known in Indian politics through the Hinjili assembly constituency, long represented by former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik. On the ground, it is a local centre for trade and services in a farming region.

A Hinjilicut map poster shows the organic, unplanned shape of the town against a background of fields, ponds and canals. The lines are finer and more varied than a gridded city, and the composition has a handmade feel. It is a genuine portrait of a small Odisha town, drawn with care rather than decoration.

01

Organic street pattern

Lanes branch and bend freely rather than following a grid, creating a dense, textured centre that grows looser towards the edges of town.

02

Roads to the region

A handful of main routes radiate outwards, linking the town to nearby villages and to Berhampur, and giving the composition clear directional lines.

03

Fields and water

The surrounding land is agricultural, with ponds and irrigation channels appearing as small shapes and thin lines across the open parts of the map.
