About this Hunucmá map poster
Hunucmá is a town in the Mexican state of Yucatán, a short distance west of Mérida on the way toward the Gulf coast. The municipality also includes the small fishing port of Sisal, which was once the main harbour of the peninsula and gave its name to the henequen fibre exported through it.
On a map, Hunucmá follows the pattern of many Yucatecan towns: a regular grid of numbered streets spreading out from a central plaza and church, with blocks that grow looser and larger toward the edges. The land around it is almost perfectly flat, so there are no rivers or hills to disrupt the geometry, only roads running out in straight lines across the plain.
