Ihiala lies in the south of Anambra State, in the densely settled countryside of southeastern Nigeria. On the map, the main road between Onitsha and Owerri forms the town's spine. Markets, churches, schools and houses line it, and smaller roads branch off toward surrounding communities, often following ridges and field boundaries rather than a planned grid.
The local government area includes several towns and villages, and the landscape between them mixes farmland, woodland and scattered settlement. Uli, within the same area, was the site of a road used as an airstrip during the Nigerian Civil War. It became the main entry point for relief flights to the Biafran side.
