Logan lies in Cache Valley in northern Utah, with the Bear River Range rising sharply to the east. Its map is a clear example of the pioneer plan used in Mormon settlements: a grid of broad streets set to the compass, with large square blocks. The city spreads west across the flat valley floor toward farmland and wetlands.
On the eastern edge, the land rises to a bench where Utah State University's campus overlooks the town. Just beyond, the Logan River emerges from Logan Canyon, and the highway follows the river up into the mountains. The Logan Temple stands on a rise near the centre, one of the town's most recognisable buildings.
