Sandy occupies the southeastern part of the Salt Lake Valley in Utah, and its map is defined by slope. On the western side, near Interstate 15, the land is flat and the streets follow the valley's numbered grid. Moving east, the ground rises toward the Wasatch Range and streets begin to curve with the terrain.
The eastern edge of the city reaches the base of the mountains near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, gateway to the ski areas at Alta and Snowbird. Dimple Dell Regional Park cuts a long natural ravine across the city. Sandy is also home to the stadium of Real Salt Lake.
