Tlokoeng lies in the north-eastern part of the Eastern Cape, in high, rolling country near the foothills of the southern Drakensberg. The landscape is open grassland cut by rivers and streams, with mountains rising in the distance. On the map, settlement looks less like a single town and more like clusters of homesteads spread across the land.
Roads and tracks connect these clusters, winding with the terrain and following the easier gradients between valleys and ridges. A main road links the area to larger regional towns. Between the settlements lies wide grazing and farm land, and river lines trace pale, meandering paths through the valleys.
