About this Itaeté map poster
Itaeté is a municipality in the interior of Bahia, on the edge of the Chapada Diamantina, a region of table-top mountains, canyons and caves. The municipality is known for the Poço Encantado, a flooded cave whose clear blue water lights up when sunlight shines in through an opening in the rock at certain times of year.
The town itself is compact. Its streets form a small, fairly regular grid of blocks, from which a few roads lead out into the surrounding countryside. Beyond the edges, the landscape opens into dry scrubland, farmland and rough terrain, crossed only by long rural tracks.
