About this Izumisano map poster
Izumisano lies on the southern shore of Osaka Bay. From above, its most striking feature is offshore: the artificial island of Kansai International Airport, part of which falls within the city's boundaries, connected to the mainland by a long bridge. Along the coast, reclaimed land forms Rinku Town, with wide straight roads and large plots, while the older town spreads inland towards the hills.
The airport opened in 1994 and gave the city a new role as Osaka's gateway to the world. The Sky Gate Bridge R, which carries road and rail traffic to the island, is one of the longest truss bridges of its kind. Rinku Gate Tower Building stands out on the waterfront. Izumisano is also known for its towel-making industry.
