The map

About this Jiangluo map poster

Jiangluo is a town in southern Gansu, in the hill country of Longnan, where the land folds into steep ridges and narrow valleys. Settlements here follow the valley floors, and Jiangluo is no exception. Its streets form a slim band along the valley instead of spreading out evenly in every direction, so the town's shape follows the landscape closely.

From above, the terrain governs the town's form. A main road runs along the valley, side streets branch toward the slopes, and small watercourses add soft, curving lines. Beyond the built area, the map fills with winding roads, hillside fields and villages tucked into side valleys, all signs of a landscape where flat ground is scarce and valuable.

Jiangluo is little known outside its region, and its map records everyday geography rather than landmarks. A Jiangluo map poster shows how a Chinese mountain town fits its setting: squeezed into the valley, linked by winding roads and surrounded by fields and hills. The image is spare and quietly graphic.

01

Valley corridor

The town stretches along the valley floor, giving the map a clear linear direction, with the main road following the valley through the centre.

02

Side valleys

Small roads and tracks climb into side valleys, each ending at a hamlet or a field. Together they form a branching pattern, like the veins of a leaf.

03

Hillside fields

On gentler slopes, cultivated plots follow the lie of the land, producing layered, curving lines that add texture to the edges of the poster.
