About this Kapenguria map poster
Kapenguria is the administrative seat of West Pokot County, set in the green highlands of north-western Kenya. On a map the town reads as a compact cluster of streets gathered near the main road that climbs from Kitale toward the dry north, with scattered compounds and field tracks thinning out quickly into cultivated slopes.
The name carries weight in Kenyan history. In 1952 and 1953 the colonial government tried Jomo Kenyatta and five fellow nationalists here, a case remembered as the trial of the Kapenguria Six. The place where they were held is now preserved as a museum, and the town's modest street pattern still holds that story close to its centre.
