Railway junction
Several lines meet at Kogon, and the tracks spread into wide yards and sidings. On the map they form the strongest set of lines, running straight through the town.

The map
Kogon lies a short distance southeast of Bukhara in the flat oasis country of Uzbekistan's Bukhara region. The town grew up in the late nineteenth century around a station on the Trans-Caspian Railway, first known as New Bukhara, and the rail corridor still sits at the centre of the map. Its streets are laid out in a regular pattern, quite unlike the winding lanes of the old city next door.
Around the town, irrigation canals and field boundaries form a fine network typical of Central Asian oasis farming. Kogon remains an important railway junction, and the tracks fan out into sidings and yards that are easy to pick out from above. The former residence built for the Emir of Bukhara near the station is one of the few landmarks from the early period.
A Kogon Shahri map poster captures a place defined by infrastructure. The junction, the planned blocks and the canal-lined fields all appear as clean black lines, and together they tell the story of a town that grew up because the railway arrived.
Several lines meet at Kogon, and the tracks spread into wide yards and sidings. On the map they form the strongest set of lines, running straight through the town.
The residential blocks follow a regular, gridded layout from the railway era, a clear contrast with the dense organic fabric of old Bukhara just to the northwest.
Irrigation channels and field edges surround the town, drawn as a fine web of lines that shows how water is carried across the flat farmland of the oasis.

Why Kogon Shahri
For people who grew up near Bukhara or worked on the railway, Kogon is a specific place, not a footnote to its famous neighbour. A map gives it its own frame on the wall.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name, a date or a short phrase, and pick from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
