The map

About this Komatipoort map poster

Komatipoort sits in the far east of Mpumalanga, where the Komati and Crocodile rivers meet, a few kilometres from the border with Mozambique. On the map, the two rivers dominate, curving around the town and framing it against open bushveld. The streets form a small, regular grid, with the railway and main road running east toward the border.

The town grew around the railway linking Pretoria to the port of Maputo, completed in the 1890s. Today it is also a gateway for visitors to the southern part of Kruger National Park, whose boundary lies just across the Crocodile River to the north.

A Komatipoort map poster captures that edge-of-country feeling. The simple street grid, the river confluence and the long lines of rail and road leading toward Mozambique make a clear, graphic composition. It is a place defined as much by what surrounds it as by the town itself.

01

River confluence

The Komati and Crocodile rivers meet close to the town, forming a broad, branching pattern of water that gives the map its main structure.

02

Railway to Maputo

The historic line to the Mozambican coast runs through Komatipoort, a long, straight feature that ties the town to its reason for existing.

03

Kruger boundary

North of the Crocodile River, the national park begins, and the map shows the sudden change from farmland and streets to open, road-sparse wilderness.
