The map

About this Kópavogur map poster

Kópavogur is Iceland's second-largest municipality. It lies directly south of Reykjavík, and the two cities meet along the Fossvogur inlet. The town is built across a series of low hills and the Kársnes peninsula, between Fossvogur and the Kópavogur bay. On the map, streets curve around the slopes rather than following a strict grid, and the coastline adds long, clean edges.

Toward the east, the town climbs into newer neighbourhoods and reaches out toward open lava fields and lakes. The Smáralind shopping centre and the tall Smáratorg tower mark the commercial heart near the main roads. In 1662, a meeting at Kópavogur saw Icelanders accept the absolute rule of the Danish king, an event remembered as an important moment in the country's history.

A Kópavogur map poster shows a suburban landscape shaped by the terrain. The twin bays, the peninsula and the winding hillside streets all come through clearly. In black and white, the contrast between water and land is especially sharp, and the curving roads have an almost drawn quality that suits the northern light.

01

Kársnes peninsula

A peninsula reaches out between the two bays, and its streets curl around the high ground. It is the most distinctive shape on the Kópavogur coast.

02

Fossvogur inlet

A narrow bay separates Kópavogur from Reykjavík. On the map it forms a natural boundary with a green valley running along its shore.

03

Hillside streets

Residential streets loop around the hills in cul-de-sacs and curves. They give the map a soft, organic rhythm instead of a grid.

Why Kópavogur

A map that means something

Kópavogur is home to many families in the capital area, and a map of the town captures the quiet neighbourhoods, the bays and the paths along the shore. It makes a good gift for someone moving away or settling in.

You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, including Icelandic characters. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir looks particularly good with the dark water of the bays.
