A state capital
Administrative buildings and the offices of Warrap State sit together in the town. They give Kuacjok a denser core than the surrounding countryside, visible as a tighter group of blocks.

The map
Kuacjok is the capital of Warrap State in South Sudan. It has grown mostly in recent decades as an administrative centre. From above it looks open and spacious: scattered compounds, government buildings and markets connected by unpaved roads that fan out across the flat land of the region.
This part of South Sudan lies on broad plains that drain toward the wetlands of the Nile basin, and the ground has very little relief. On a map, the place is described by its roads rather than by rivers or hills. A few main routes lead out toward neighbouring towns, and smaller tracks link homesteads and cattle camps.
Much of the town is new and still filling in, so its street pattern is looser than that of an old city, with wide gaps between built-up areas. A Kuacjok map poster draws that openness in clean black lines. It shows a place that is still taking shape rather than one fixed centuries ago.
Administrative buildings and the offices of Warrap State sit together in the town. They give Kuacjok a denser core than the surrounding countryside, visible as a tighter group of blocks.
A few main routes leave the town in different directions, linking it with other settlements in the state. On the map they form the strongest lines in an otherwise open landscape.
Flat land surrounds the town on every side. There are no hills or coastlines to frame it, so the pattern of compounds and tracks becomes the main subject of the poster.

Why Kuacjok
For people from Warrap, including family members living abroad, this map is a way to keep home in view. It records a town that is changing year by year, so a poster made today also becomes a record of a particular moment.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a year or a family name. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Start with the free 900 px preview before downloading the $9 HD files.
