About this Kubinka map poster
Kubinka lies in the Odintsovo area of Moscow Oblast, about sixty kilometres west of the capital. On the map it is a town defined by infrastructure and forest. The railway towards Smolensk and Belarus passes through it, the Minsk highway runs nearby, and large blocks of mixed woodland fill the spaces in between.
The town's name is known far beyond the region for two things. The Kubinka air base is home to the Russian Knights and Swifts aerobatic teams, and its long runway shows as an unmistakable straight bar on the map. The armoured vehicles museum, one of the largest collections of tanks in the world, is now part of the nearby Patriot Park complex.
Between these large features, the residential areas are compact: blocks of flats, some older wooden houses and dacha plots along forest edges.
