The map
Kufa stands on the west bank of the Euphrates, a few kilometres from Najaf, and the two cities have grown so close that on a map they read as a single urban area. Kufa occupies the river side of that pairing: its streets run down toward the water, bridges cross to the east bank, and groves and fields line the river beyond the built-up edge.
The city was founded in the seventh century as a garrison town in the early Islamic period and later served as the capital of the caliph Ali. The Great Mosque of Kufa, a large walled rectangle near the centre, is among the oldest mosques in the world, and the angular Kufic script takes its name from the city.
That long history sits within a modern street plan of avenues and dense neighbourhoods, with the mosque compound and the river as fixed points. A Kufa map poster frames the city's connection to both the Euphrates and Najaf, a composition in which water, sacred architecture and ordinary streets share the same quiet lines.
The river runs along the eastern side of the city, its banks lined with greenery and crossed by bridges that link Kufa to the farmland opposite.
The large rectangular compound of the Great Mosque of Kufa stands out clearly in the street pattern, a strong geometric block near the historic centre.
Main avenues run toward Najaf, drawing the two cities together into one continuous urban shape that fills the frame on the side away from the river.

Why Kufa
For pilgrims, scholars and families with roots in the region, Kufa carries deep meaning, and a map of its streets and river is a restrained way to honour that connection. It suits a study, a hallway or a gift for someone who has made the journey.
Add a name, the date of a visit or a short dedication in the title and subtitle, and choose between Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed if you like.
