Kusŏng is a city in North P'yŏngan Province in the north-west of North Korea. The landscape is hilly, and on the map the urban area appears as a band of streets laid out along a valley, with mountainous terrain rising on either side and roads following the lower ground.
The city is known as an industrial centre within the province. Its layout reflects planned development, with longer avenues and blocks of housing and industry set within the constraints of the terrain, so the geometry of the town is shaped as much by the hills as by design.
