The map
Lautoka is the second-largest city in Fiji, on the dry western coast of Viti Levu, not far north of Nadi. On a map, the city meets the sea along a working waterfront: wharves, the port basin and a large industrial footprint where the sugar mill stands. Inland, the streets settle into an orderly grid before giving way to cane fields and the hills beyond.
Sugar has defined the place for more than a century, and Lautoka is still widely called the Sugar City. Its mill is one of the largest in the country, and cane is brought in from the surrounding plantations. The port handles sugar exports as well as ferries and cargo bound for the western islands.
A Lautoka map poster shows the city as a meeting point of land, industry and water: the straight shoreline and jetties, the regular downtown blocks, the main road running along the coast toward Nadi and Ba. In monochrome the coastline gives a clean, bold edge, and the reef and channel shapes offshore add quiet detail.
Jetties and the harbour basin project into the water, forming the strongest geometric shapes along the city's western edge.
Behind the waterfront, the commercial centre is laid out in regular, straight blocks that contrast with the curving roads on the outskirts.
The main highway around Viti Levu passes through the city, connecting it south to Nadi and north toward Ba along the coast.

Why Lautoka
Lautoka belongs on the walls of Fijians abroad, people who worked at the mill or the port, and travellers who crossed to the islands from its wharf. The map holds the city's working shoreline and neat streets in one calm image.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be personalised, and the five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, let you choose between a crisp modern look and something warmer.
