The map
Malakwal is a town in Mandi Bahauddin District, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It sits on the broad, level land between the Jhelum and Chenab rivers, among the most intensively farmed country in the region. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets surrounded by a patchwork of fields, canals and rural roads.
The railway is central to its shape. Malakwal grew as a junction on the rail network of northern Punjab, and the lines approaching the town cut straight across the plain. Around them the streets take on a mix of grid-like blocks near the station and more organic lanes in the older residential quarters.
A Malakwal map poster captures a working town of the Punjab plains, with rail lines, market streets and the geometric edges of farmland. The composition is clean and strong, dense at the centre and open at the margins. It is a fitting keepsake for anyone with roots in this part of Pakistan.
Tracks approach the town across open fields and meet near the station, giving the map a set of long, confident straight lines.
Around the station and bazaar, narrow streets gather into the densest part of the map, where most of daily life happens.
Fields, canals and rural roads spread in every direction across the flat land between the Jhelum and Chenab rivers.
