About this Malango map poster
Malango lies on the northern side of Guadalcanal, the largest island of the Solomon Islands, a short distance east of the capital, Honiara. The area covers part of the coastal plain along this shore, with settlements and gardens spread across low land between the sea and the hills that rise towards the island's mountainous interior.
The plains of northern Guadalcanal are well known as the scene of heavy fighting during the Second World War, when the campaign for the island lasted from 1942 into 1943. Today the area forms part of the corridor around Honiara, with roads, villages and farmland linking it to the capital and to the rest of the coast.
