The map
Medininagar is the headquarters of Palamu district in western Jharkhand. It was known as Daltonganj until the name changed to honour Medini Ray, a Chero ruler of Palamu remembered in local history. On the map, the North Koel river gives the town a clear edge: a broad, braided channel lies along one side and the streets fan out from it.
The centre is dense, with narrow lanes around the market and older quarters. Main roads run out towards neighbouring towns, and the railway adds a firm line through the plan. Past the last neighbourhoods, fields and scattered villages take over. Further off, the wooded hills of Palamu surround Betla National Park, one of the region's best-known protected areas.
A Medininagar map poster shows a working river town without flourish. The river's wide sandy bed makes a strong pale band in black and white, and it balances the busy street pattern beside it. It makes a thoughtful gift for someone from Palamu who now lives far from home.
The river's wide, shifting channel runs past the town and dominates one side of the map, with the streets following its course.
Tight lanes and short blocks near the centre show the oldest part of town, where trade and daily life have always been concentrated.
Main roads leave the town in several directions and link it to the villages and forested hills of the district it administers.

Why Medininagar
For people from Palamu, this map records home in outline: the river, the market streets, the roads out of town. It suits a living room or office and stays understated next to photographs and books.
Change the title to Daltonganj if that is the name you grew up with, add a subtitle or date, and adjust the coordinates line. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
