The map
Menongue is the capital of Cuando Cubango province in south-eastern Angola, a vast and thinly populated region of savanna and river valleys. From above, the town is compact: a modest grid of central streets, an airstrip, and residential areas that spread in looser patterns into the surrounding bush.
The Cuebe River runs past the town, drawing a soft natural line against the straight streets. Menongue is also the eastern terminus of the Moçâmedes Railway, which crosses southern Angola from the Atlantic port of Namibe. The track arrives at the town as a single thin line, one of the few long straight features in this open landscape.
The map of Menongue is spare, and that is its character. A Menongue map poster shows a small centre of human order set in wide surroundings, with the river, the rail line and a handful of main roads doing most of the visual work.
The Moçâmedes Railway reaches its eastern terminus here, and its single track enters the map as a long, lonely line that ends at the edge of town.
The river curves beside the town, giving the otherwise geometric composition a natural counterpoint and marking the lowest ground in the surrounding landscape.
Beyond the central streets, sparse roads and tracks dissolve into empty space, making the negative space of the poster as important as the lines themselves.

Why Menongue
A map of Menongue is a personal choice, usually made by someone who lived, served or worked there, or whose family comes from Cuando Cubango. It records a place that rarely appears on posters, which makes it more meaningful rather than less.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself and pick one of five styles, including Paper and Sand for a warmer tone. A free 900 px watermarked preview lets you check it before buying the $9 HD files or a printed poster.
