The map
Montemurlo lies at the north-western edge of the plain around Prato, where the flat ground meets the first slopes of the Tuscan Apennine foothills. The map divides into two clear halves. Below, there is a dense spread of streets, workshops and industrial blocks. Above, contour-softened lanes climb toward the old hilltop centre and the green hills behind it.
The town is part of the Prato textile district, one of Europe's major centres for fabric and yarn. That work shows on the map as large rectangular footprints, mill yards and service roads mixed in with residential streets. Straight roads run across the plain toward Prato and Florence, while the hillside is laced with narrow, twisting lanes.
In 1537, the hill above the town saw the Battle of Montemurlo, where Cosimo I de' Medici defeated the Florentine exiles and secured his rule. A Montemurlo map poster captures both sides of the place: the working grid of the plain and the older, winding pattern around the fortress on the rise.
The medieval fortress and old village sit on a spur above the plain, where the small, irregular lanes stand out against the orderly streets below.
Large textile works and warehouses form broad geometric blocks across the flat land, giving the lower town a strong, modular texture on paper.
The northern part of the map turns quiet as the streets thin out into wooded slopes, and a few roads climb into the hills.

Why Montemurlo
For people from the Prato area, Montemurlo is often tied to family businesses, the mills and Sunday walks up to the rocca. A map of the town keeps both the work and the landscape in view, and it looks at home in a studio, office or kitchen.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates of your choosing, for example a family name or the year a business opened. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
