About this Monterrey map poster
Monterrey fills a broad valley in the Sierra Madre Oriental, and mountains frame it on almost every side. To the east rises Cerro de la Silla, its saddle-shaped profile the symbol of the city, while Cerro de las Mitras stands to the west. The street grid spreads across the flat ground and stops abruptly at the foot of the slopes.
The Santa Catarina River crosses the city from west to east, usually a wide, dry riverbed flanked by highways. North of it, the Macroplaza forms a long chain of plazas and gardens through the centre.
