Algete lies in the north of the Community of Madrid, in gently rolling country toward the Jarama valley. From above, the town has two distinct textures. There is an older, irregular centre where the streets converge, and around it newer housing estates with curving streets, cul-de-sacs and large blocks, plus industrial estates on the outskirts.
Like many municipalities around Madrid, Algete grew quickly in the second half of the twentieth century as families moved out of the capital. Farmland around the town still appears as open space, and main roads connect it with the motorways into the city. The result is a clear picture of how a traditional Castilian village turned into a modern commuter town.
