Bahārestān lies south of Isfahan, on the flat plateau of central Iran. Unlike the older neighbourhoods of the historic city, it was developed as a planned new town, and the map reflects that: long, straight streets, clearly defined blocks and a layout designed as a whole.
Main boulevards divide the city into neighbourhoods, each filled with a regular pattern of residential streets. Parks and open spaces are set into the grid, and wide roads connect Bahārestān to Isfahan and the surrounding region. Beyond the edges, the map opens into the dry, largely empty plain.
The town was created to house part of Isfahan's growing population, and it has grown steadily since. A Bahārestān map poster shows a clear, orderly plan on the open landscape, a contrast to the winding lanes and bazaars of the city to the north.
