Chunga lies on the western side of Lusaka, Zambia's capital, on the high plateau that gives the city its mild climate. On a map it is part of a wide belt of residential neighbourhoods around the city centre. Its streets mix irregular lanes with more regular blocks, depending on how each area developed.
The ground here is fairly flat, so history and planning shape the street pattern more than the terrain does. Some parts have the tight, informal texture of self-built neighbourhoods, with short, winding paths between plots, while others follow straighter lines. At the edges, the built-up area gives way to open land and roads leading out of the city.
