Deinze lies in East Flanders, southwest of Ghent, on the river Leie. From above, the river is the defining feature, curving through the town and the surrounding flat farmland. Just at Deinze, the Schipdonk Canal leaves the Leie and heads north in a straight line toward the coast, giving the map a clear, geometric counterpoint to the natural bends.
The town centre gathers around the river crossings, with a compact grid of streets and the church near the water. Beyond it, residential streets stretch out into the countryside.
