Dour Map Poster
Dour is a municipality in the province of Hainaut in Wallonia, close to the border with France and west of Mons. It belongs to the Borinage, a district shaped by centuries of coal mining. On a map Dour is not a single tight town but a group of former villages joined by roads, with houses lining the routes between them and fields filling the gaps.
The mining era left its mark on the landscape in the form of spoil heaps, former colliery sites and rows of workers' houses. Today Dour is also widely known for the Dour Festival, a large music festival held each summer on grounds near the town that draws visitors from across Belgium and beyond. The contrast between industrial past and festival season is part of its identity.
