Golfe is one of the densely populated neighbourhoods in the southern part of Luanda, Angola's capital. It lies inland from the Atlantic coast, on ground where the city has grown rapidly in recent decades. On a map it appears as a thick mesh of small streets and plots, framed by a few longer roads that connect it to the rest of the city.
Much of the area developed informally, so the street pattern is organic rather than planned. Lanes change direction often, blocks vary in size and shape, and footpaths fill the spaces between them. From above, this creates a texture quite unlike a gridded city, with a fine, almost hand-drawn quality that shows up well in a minimalist black-and-white print.
