Gürgentepe is a town and district centre in the interior of Ordu Province, in the hills that rise behind Turkey's Black Sea coast. The landscape here is steep and deeply folded. The town follows the terrain rather than any imposed plan, with streets bending along ridges and slopes and falling away towards the valleys on either side.
The Ordu region is one of the world's most important hazelnut-growing areas, and the slopes around Gürgentepe are covered with orchards and small farms. On the map, this appears as a fine network of winding village roads and tracks. They climb and switch back across the hills, linking scattered settlements to the town centre.

The surrounding hillsides are laced with narrow farm roads serving the hazelnut orchards. They are drawn as delicate lines that wrap around the slopes.

Roads descend from Gürgentepe towards neighbouring districts and the coast. Their switchbacks form some of the most expressive curves on the map.
