Longju sits in the hill country of eastern Chongqing, where the land rarely stays flat for long. From above, the town reads as a tight cluster of streets packed into whatever level ground the terrain allows. Roads curve around spurs and follow valley floors instead of laying out a grid. The built area fades quickly into terraced fields and wooded ridges.
This is a landscape shaped by the wider Yangtze basin, where streams have cut the land into ridges and hollows over a very long time. At poster scale, the pattern of roads shows that clearly. Main routes thread along the contours and side lanes climb short distances before giving way to farmland, so the town looks like it grew in place rather than to a plan.
