Loreto lies in the south of Zacatecas, on the high central plateau of Mexico near the borders with Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosí. From above the town shows the classic Mexican pattern: a regular grid of blocks centred on a main square, with the grid extending outward in straight lines until it meets the fields.
The land around Loreto is flat and largely agricultural, divided into long parcels by irrigation channels and farm roads.
