Maltepe Map Poster
Maltepe lies on the Asian side of Istanbul, along the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara between Kadıköy and Kartal. From above, it is arranged in bands parallel to the sea: a coastal strip, a series of long avenues running east to west, the D-100 highway and the metro line, and then residential neighbourhoods climbing the hills inland.
The shoreline was extended with a large area of reclaimed land, now a wide coastal park with open lawns, walking paths and space for concerts and public gatherings. It appears on the map as a long, smooth edge in front of the older streets, facing the Princes' Islands, which sit a short distance offshore.
Inland, the district grew quickly over the late twentieth century, and dense apartment blocks fill the slopes, broken up by parks, schools and the campus of Maltepe University further up. Parallel avenues
Long avenues run parallel to the sea through the district, tying it to neighbouring Kadıköy and Kartal and giving the street pattern a clear east-west direction.
Princes' Islands
The Princes' Islands lie offshore to the south, and depending on the framing they can appear at the edge of the poster as small shapes in the Marmara.
