Mugumu is the headquarters of Serengeti District in Tanzania's Mara Region, sitting on rolling grassland just west of Serengeti National Park. On a map the town appears as a loose cluster of streets and compounds around a few main roads, with smallholdings and scattered homesteads spreading into the savanna beyond. The layout is informal, shaped by routes rather than a planned grid.
Its position makes Mugumu a gateway town. Roads lead east toward the park boundary and the protected lands around it, and west toward Lake Victoria and the rest of the Mara Region.
