Pijnacker lies in South Holland, in the green strip between Delft, Rotterdam and Zoetermeer, and together with Nootdorp forms a single municipality. The map is typical of the Dutch polder: straight ditches and drainage canals divide the land into long narrow strips, and the town's streets follow the same directions. The old village centre is small, and the larger residential areas built around it have their own neat patterns of water and green space.
Around the town, greenhouse complexes create large rectangles on the map, part of the horticultural landscape of the region. The RandstadRail light-rail line runs through Pijnacker and connects it with The Hague and Rotterdam.
