Ulu Tiram lies in the state of Johor at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, northeast of Johor Bahru. It started as a small settlement surrounded by rubber and oil palm plantations, and over recent decades it has grown into a residential town linked to the wider Johor Bahru urban area. That shift from farmland to suburb shows clearly from above.
The map is made up of distinct pieces. Housing estates, each with its own grid of short, parallel streets and loops, sit side by side, connected by a few main roads. Between them remain patches of plantation, green space and undeveloped land. The pattern is less a single town centre than a cluster of neighbourhoods built at different times.
