Wānkāner Map Poster & Print
Wānkāner lies in Morbi district in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The name is usually explained as referring to the bend of a river, and the map bears it out: the Machhu curves past the town, and the older streets gather close to that curve before the newer neighbourhoods spread across the flatter ground beyond.
Until 1948 Wānkāner was the capital of a princely state, and its best-known landmark is the Ranjit Vilas Palace, built on a hill overlooking the town. From above, the palace grounds form a distinct open patch on the high ground, separate from the tight, irregular lanes of the old centre below.
