Yoff sits on the northern coast of the Cap-Vert peninsula, within the Dakar region, facing the open Atlantic. It began as a Lebou fishing village, and its oldest quarter is still a dense network of narrow sandy lanes near the shore. On the map, this tight core contrasts with the newer, more regular neighbourhoods behind it.
The long beach is lined with painted pirogues, and fishing remains central to daily life. Just offshore lies the small island of Yoff. The town also borders the site of the former Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport, which served Dakar until 2017. On the map, its runways and open land form a large, distinct area inland from the coast.
