The map
Mtubatuba is a town in northern KwaZulu-Natal, set in a landscape of sugar-cane fields and low hills. The map shows a small, compact centre with residential areas spreading out along the roads, surrounded by wide agricultural land cut by farm tracks.
The town is a gateway to two of the province's best-known protected areas. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies to the east around St Lucia, and the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is to the north-west. Visitors to both often pass through the town on the way.
A Mtubatuba map poster shows a modest town in a wide, cultivated landscape. The small centre and its roads create a clear focal point, while the fields and tracks around it provide a subtle background. It suits people from Zululand and travellers who remember trips to the coast and reserves.
The commercial centre and nearby streets form the densest part of the map. The main roads meet here before leading on to the coast and inland.
Large blocks of sugar-cane land surround the town. Their field roads and boundaries create a soft, regular pattern across the poster.
The road heading east toward the St Lucia estuary is a strong line leaving the town. It links it to the coast and the wetland park.
