Belaya river
The river curves along the edge of the town, with meanders and old channels on its floodplain. It creates the most prominent natural shape on the map.

The map
Ishimbay Map Poster & Print
Ishimbay lies on the Belaya river in southern Bashkortostan, where the river swings through a wide valley on its way north. The town is associated with an important moment in Soviet industrial history. In 1932, oil was struck here, the first commercial oil in the region, and the discovery turned a small settlement into an industrial town.
The map shows a planned town of fairly regular streets and residential blocks next to the curves of the river, with industrial zones and railways on the outskirts. Close by are the Shikhany, a line of isolated limestone hills rising from the plain. They are remnants of an ancient reef, and they are among the most unusual landforms in the Urals region.
An Ishimbay map poster combines the tight organisation of a Soviet industrial town with the natural lines of the Belaya and its floodplain. The river bends, oxbow lakes and flat land give the composition plenty of open space around the grid of streets.

Planned districts
Residential areas built with the oil industry follow a regular layout of streets and blocks. They give the centre of the poster a clear, ordered structure.
Shikhany hills
A chain of isolated limestone hills rises from the plain near the town. The fossil reefs are a distinctive feature of the wider Ishimbay landscape.
