Ore Mountain slopes
The forested mountainside rises sharply north of town, and the streets stop where the slope begins. The upper edge of the map is clear and almost straight.

The map
Jirkov Map Poster & Print
Jirkov lies in north-west Bohemia, directly beside Chomutov. The two towns have grown together so closely that the boundary between them is hard to find on the map. Behind Jirkov the Ore Mountains rise steeply to the north, and the town fills the ground at their base, where the slopes level out into the basin below.
The historic centre is small, a cluster of streets around the main square. Much of the town, though, is made up of large housing estates built in the second half of the twentieth century, when the region's brown-coal industry brought rapid growth. From above, these estates appear as long, regular blocks in open arrangements, quite unlike the older streets.
On the edge of the hills above the town stands Červený Hrádek, a chateau set in its own park. A Jirkov map poster shows how compact a town can be between mountain slope and industrial basin, with forest pressing close on one side and dense housing on the other.

Housing estates
Large post-war estates make up much of Jirkov. Their long rectangular blocks, set in open space, form a strong geometric pattern that stands out on the print.
Joined to Chomutov
Jirkov and Chomutov meet without a visible gap, so the map shows a continuous built-up area where one town's streets flow directly into the other's.

Why Jirkov
A map that means something
Jirkov is home to people who know it through daily life rather than tourism: the estate they grew up on, the way up into the hills, the tram or bus into Chomutov. You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a street, a name or a year.
The estates look especially graphic in Noir and Blueprint, and Paper and Sand soften them. Classic black & white is the neutral choice. Buy the HD files for $9 in six sizes, including A3 and A2, or order a matte printed poster from a nearby print partner.
